Prysmian and Aurubis enter long-term agreement for supply of copper wire rod

Prysmian Secures Long-Term Copper Supply Agreement with Aurubis

Prysmian announced a new long-term contract with Aurubis for copper wire rod. The agreement strengthens Prysmianโ€™s cable supply chain and supports its growth in Europe.

Aurubis to Increase Copper Wire Rod Supply

Under the deal, Aurubis will supply a significant and growing yearly volume of copper wire rod to Prysmian. Aurubis is a global leader in nonferrous metals and the worldโ€™s largest copper recycler. It also ranks as Europeโ€™s largest vertically integrated copper wire rod manufacturer.

The contract secures copper wire rod for Prysmianโ€™s European plants. It covers current production needs and supports future expansion plans. The partnership ensures a stable and high-quality material supply for Prysmianโ€™s cable and systems portfolio.

Shared Focus on Sustainability and Energy Transition

Prysmian Chief Purchasing Officer Laura Colli says both companies share a strong focus on sustainability. They also view themselves as enablers of the energy transition and digitalization.

Prysmian aims to act as a global player in decarbonization. The company targets net-zero emissions across its value chain by 2050. It plans to cut Scope 3 emissions by 28% by 2030 compared to 2019. Prysmian also set a goal to reach 15โ€“16% recycled copper content by 2025.

Aurubis Drives Low-Carbon Copper and Circular Economy

Aurubis follows a dedicated sustainability strategy. It aims to become carbon neutral well before 2050. The multimetal company produces copper with less than half the global average carbon emissions.

Aurubis plans to cut Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions per ton of copper cathodes by 50% by 2030. It also plans to reduce Scope 3 emissions by 24% per ton in the same period. The company supports the circular economy through full value chain solutions. Its copper rod already carries almost 40% less CO2 than the global average.
