Prysmian Group will supply 740 kilometers of submarine fiber optic cable for the Hawaiian Islands Fiber Link (HIFL) project. The initiative supports Hawaiสปiโs ongoing plan to expand reliable, equitable broadband access across all six main islands by late 2026.
Strengthening Hawaiสปiโs Broadband Network
The HIFL system plays a vital role in Hawaiสปiโs Connect Kฤkou initiative, which seeks to deliver dependable broadband speeds to residents, businesses, schools, and public institutions.
The submarine network will stretch about 416 miles across the seafloor, linking cable landing sites on Kauaสปi, Oสปahu, Maui, Lฤnaสปi, Molokaสปi, and Hawaiสปi Island. Moreover, the cableโs diameter will varyโ1.1 inches in shallower waters and about 0.6 inches in deeper areasโto ensure both durability and optimal performance.
Environmentally Responsible Construction
Each landing site will use horizontal directional drilling (HDD) to route cables underground and toward offshore connection points. This approach, therefore, minimizes shoreline disruption and protects local ecosystems. In addition, it guarantees safer cable placement and reduces maintenance risks in the long term.
Long-Term Value for Hawaiสปiโs Connectivity
The design includes 24 fiber pairs and offers a 25-year operational life span. This infrastructure will provide a secure and lasting communications link for Hawaiสปiโs future. Furthermore, it strengthens local connectivity, improves service reliability, and supports continued economic growth across the islands.
Through the HIFL project, Prysmian Group continues to demonstrate its leadership in global connectivity solutions and its commitment to powering sustainable growth through advanced fiber technologies.
