Prysmian Wins DolWin5 Offshore Grid Connection Project
Prysmian Group has secured a major contract for the DolWin5 offshore grid connection project, valued at approximately €140 million. The award comes from TenneT, a leading Dutch-German transmission system operator.
DolWin5 Offshore Grid Connection Project Scope
The project will link multiple offshore wind farms to the German power grid. Prysmian will supply, install, and commission a 320 kV HVDC XLPE-insulated submarine and land cable system.
The system will deliver a transmission capacity of 900 MW and include an integrated fiber optic cable network. The project consists of:
- 100 km of submarine cables
- 30 km of land cables
These connections will link the DolWin epsilon offshore converter platform, located in the German North Sea, to the Emden/Ost onshore converter station.
Advanced Cable Manufacturing and Installation
Prysmian will manufacture the submarine cables at its Pikkala, Finland facility and the land cables at its Gron, France plant.
The company will carry out installation using its specialized vessels:
- Cable Enterprise for deep-water operations
- Ulisse for shallow-water installation
The project is scheduled for completion by mid-2024.

Supporting Renewable Energy Growth in Europe
