New Steel Mill in Qiqihar

Jianlong Beiman Special Steel, based in Qiqihar, China, is constructing a new mill with an annual production capacity of 500,000 tons. The facility will support high-performance steel production and improve regional manufacturing capabilities.

Advanced Rolling Technology

The mill will feature a 10-stand wire rod finishing block designed for low-temperature rolling, ensuring high metallurgical quality. It will also include a cooling and equalizing loop positioned upstream to optimize material properties.

The system will process:

  • Wire rod sizes from 5.5 mm to 25 mm
  • Rebar sizes from 6 mm to 16 mm
  • Rolling speeds up to 115 meters per second

Equipment and Engineering Scope

SMS Group will deliver a full range of critical equipment and engineering solutions, including:

  • Cantilever compact roughing stands
  • Shears upstream of the finishing block
  • Loop laying head with pinch roll unit
  • LCC® (Loop Cooling Conveyor) with three-fan technology
  • Coil handling system

These components will ensure efficient production, precise control, and consistent product quality.

Future Expansion and Timeline

The plant design allows for future expansion, with space reserved for additional water boxes and a MEERdrive®PLUS block to support tighter tolerances. The company expects to complete commissioning by spring 2019.
