SubCom to supply 2 subsea cable systems for Indiaโ€™s Reliance Jio Infocomm

Jio SubCom IAX IEX Subsea Cable Deal Expands Indiaโ€™s Global Connectivity

Subsea cable supplierย SubComย will deploy two nextโ€‘generation subsea cable systems forย Reliance Jio Infocomm (Jio), a leading digital services and mobile operator in India. Theย Jio SubCom IAX IEX Subsea Cable Dealย will significantly increase Indiaโ€‘centric data capacity and strengthen global internet links for Jio customers.

Highโ€‘Capacity IAX and IEX Systems Under the Jio SubCom IAX IEX Subsea Cable Deal

Under this agreement, SubCom will design and install two large systems that together span aboutย 16,000 km. Each system will deliverย more than 200 Tbit/sย of capacity, giving Jio enough bandwidth to support future demand for cloud, video, and 5G services.

The cables useย open system technologyย and advancedย wavelengthโ€‘switched ROADM/branching units. This design allows rapid upgrades and flexible add/drop of wavelengths at multiple landing points, so Jio can scale capacity and reroute traffic as network needs evolve.

  • Theย Indiaโ€‘Asiaโ€‘Xpress (IAX)ย system will run eastbound fromย Mumbai and Chennaiย toย Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore.

  • Theย Indiaโ€‘Europeโ€‘Xpress (IEX)ย system will extend westbound from India toย Savona, Italy, with additional landings in theย Middle Eastย andย North Africa.

Global Reach Through Jioโ€™s International Fiber Network

Both IAX and IEX will integrate with theย Reliance Jio Global Fiber Networkย that extends beyondย Asiaโ€‘Pacific and Europe. Once complete, they will connect onward to theย east and west coasts of the United States, turning India into a central hub in a truly global, lowโ€‘latency data route.

Jio expectsย IAXย to beย ready for service in midโ€‘2023, whileย IEXย should come online inย early 2024. Together, the systems will support the rapid growth of applications such as streaming video, remote work, 5G, and IoT.

Jioโ€™s Vision for Indiaโ€‘Centric Global Subsea Infrastructure

โ€œJio is taking a leadership role in the construction of the firstโ€‘ofโ€‘itsโ€‘kind, Indiaโ€‘centric IAX and IEX subsea systems,โ€ saidย Mathew Oommen, President ofย Reliance Jio. He emphasized that these networks will help meet rising demand from services likeย streaming video,ย remote workforce tools,ย 5G,ย IoT, and future dataโ€‘intensive applications.

By pairing SubComโ€™s subsea technology with Jioโ€™s growing terrestrial and global fiber assets, theย Jio SubCom IAX IEX Subsea Cable Dealย positions India as a key transit point for digital traffic between Asia, Europe, and the Americas.
