Key Operations and Strategic Importance

British Steel operates major facilities across the U.K., including the Scunthorpe steelworks, where around 3,000 employees work, and additional operations in Teesside, employing about 800 people.

Industry leaders continue to highlight the importance of these facilities. According to UK Steel, they represent a critical strategic asset for the country’s industrial base.

Investment and Growth Plans

OYAK, through Ataer Holding, has positioned itself as the preferred buyer following a competitive bidding process. The Official Receiver confirmed that the offer meets key requirements and expects to finalize the transaction in the coming weeks.

Looking ahead, OYAK plans to invest approximately Â£900 million into the Scunthorpe facility. This investment aims to more than double production capacity and strengthen long-term output.

Global Expansion Strategy

Ataer Holding already owns nearly 50% of Erdemir, Turkey’s largest steel producer, which employs over 11,500 people. This acquisition aligns with OYAK’s strategy to expand its global footprint and integrate leading steel producers into its portfolio.

Company leadership emphasized a commitment to sustainable growth, continued investment, and delivering long-term value to its members.
