Southeast Chapter golf tournament was very good, started with a somber moment

The WAI Southeast Chapter golf tournament took place on September 25 at the Rock Barn Country Club in Conover, North Carolina. Overall, the event delivered strong participation and created a meaningful experience for attendees across the wire and cable industry.

Honoring a Respected Industry Leader

To begin, emcee John Dognazzi of Sikora (https://www.sikora.net) led a moment of silence. He honored Chapter President Christopher Shannon McGill. McGill served as a plant manager at Southwire (https://www.southwire.com). He passed away on June 2 at age 52 after battling brain cancer.

Following this tribute, Dognazzi—now serving as interim chapter president—officially opened the tournament.

Next, a field of 100 players competed on a well-maintained course. Conditions stayed excellent, and the pace of play remained steady.

The CommScope (https://www.commscope.com) team—Chris Giddings, Brian Deese, Cody Lail, and Paul McConnell—earned first place. They finished with a score of 56 (15 under par).

As a result, the Board plans to return to Rock Barn Country Club (https://www.rockbarn.com) next year.

Supporting the Scholarship Program

In addition, the tournament supported the chapter’s Scholarship Program. Earlier this year, the program awarded four $1,800 scholarships. Because of this, the event continues to support education across the wire and cable industry.

Finally, the chapter recognized its sponsors for their continued support. Premium sponsors included Carris Reels, Inc.; Chroma Color Corporation; Commission Brokers, Inc.; Henderson Sales & Service Inc.; The MGS Group; Process Control; Sikora; Sonoco Reels; Teknikor; and Wire & Plastic Machinery.
