Company to build plant in North Carolina to make high-temp superconducting wire

New MetOx Facility in Chatham County

MetOx International Inc., a leading high-temperature superconducting (HTS) wire manufacturer, plans to build a major production facility in Chatham County, North Carolina. The company will invest nearly $194 million in the project and create more than 330 jobs in the Research Triangle region. For company details, visit theย MetOxย website atย https://www.metox.com.

Large-Scale Xeus HTS Wire Manufacturing

The new facility will operate as a large-scale manufacturing center for MetOxโ€™s Xeus HTS wire. This investment supports rising demand for advanced superconducting technology in power transmission and critical infrastructure projects.โ€‹

According to the company, Xeus HTS wire can make transmission cables up to 10 times more efficient than traditional copper cables. In addition, Xeus wire runs at much higher temperatures and produces stronger magnetic fields than low temperature superconducting wire. MetOx uses a proprietary manufacturing process, considered one of the most advanced in the world for large-scale HTS wire production.โ€‹โ€‹

Strategic Move for U.S. Energy Infrastructure

โ€œEstablishing our new large-scale manufacturing facility in Chatham County is a pivotal step toward securing a reliable, domestic supply of HTS wire for the development of critical infrastructure in the United States,โ€ said Bud Vos, CEO of MetOx. This project also supports broader efforts to modernize the grid and strengthen domestic clean energy supply chains.โ€‹

Furthermore, in October MetOx announced that the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) selected the company to negotiate up to $80 million in funding for an advanced HTS manufacturing facility in the southeastern United States. This initiative, called Project Arch, will be the first large-scale HTS wire production facility of its kind in the country.
