Connecticut Wire Products, Inc. has acquired John M. Dean Co., a precision wire-form and metal component manufacturer founded in 1898, with plans to modernize operations and expand the company’s position in specialized American manufacturing.
The acquisition transfers ownership of one of the nation’s longest-running precision wire manufacturers while maintaining operations at its Putnam, Connecticut, facility. The new ownership said it intends to build on the company’s technical expertise through operational improvements and strategic growth.
Historic wire manufacturer enters a new chapter
For more than 127 years, John M. Dean Co. has produced precision wire-formed components for a wide range of industries, including hand tools, electronics, medical and veterinary products, industrial valves and fittings, agriculture, marine, textiles and defense.
Its manufacturing capabilities include pointed and non-pointed wire products, supported by heat treating, grinding, straightening, cutting, finishing and other value-added operations that have made the company a long-standing supplier of specialty wire components.
Operator-led ownership emphasizes modernization
Connecticut Wire Products was established in 2026 by Mathew Desjarlais, who worked within John M. Dean Co. before completing the acquisition.
According to the company, that operational experience provided firsthand knowledge of production systems, customer requirements and opportunities for improvement prior to the ownership transition.
The new ownership plans to modernize manufacturing processes, reduce production bottlenecks and expand value-added services while maintaining the company’s established reputation for precision manufacturing.
Focus remains on specialized wire products
Under the new ownership structure, John M. Dean Co. will continue producing application-specific wire products, including pins, picks, mandrels and custom wire forms for industrial customers.
The strategy centers on growing in higher-value applications where precision manufacturing expertise provides a competitive advantage while preserving the company’s long-standing domestic manufacturing capabilities.
Domestic manufacturing remains a strategic advantage
The acquisition reflects continued investment in specialized U.S. manufacturing as companies seek resilient domestic supply chains and technical production capabilities.
Rather than relocating production, the new ownership intends to expand the Connecticut operation while improving efficiency and supporting long-term growth in precision wire products.
For the wire industry, the transaction highlights the continued value placed on established manufacturers with specialized capabilities and decades of technical experience serving diverse industrial markets.
