Corning Incorporated to expand its optical fiber capacity, will build new Arizona plant

Corning Incorporatedย announced a majorย Corning cable manufacturing expansionย with plans to build a new production facility in Gilbert, Arizona. This project supports the nationโ€™s largest fiber internet provider and reflects Corningโ€™s longโ€‘term commitment to accelerating Americaโ€™s broadband network growth.

Corning Cable Manufacturing Expansion Meets U.S. Fiber Demand

The new facility in the greater Phoenix area will create about 250 jobs. It reinforces Corningโ€™s strategy to enhance its optical fiber, cable, and connectivity solutions. Furthermore, the expansion arrives as demand for broadband, 5G, and cloud networking continues to climb nationwide.

Since 2020, Corning has invested more than $500 million in fiber and cable production. Backed by strong customer partnerships, these investments have nearly doubled its U.S. cableโ€‘making capacity. As a result, Corning can now connect more homes and communities while helping bridge the digital divide.

Expanding Fiber Production in the Western U.S.

Scheduled to open in 2024, the Arizona facility will become the westernโ€‘most optical cable manufacturing site in the country. This move positions Corning to better serve customers across western states and Canada, ensuring faster deliveries and closer regional support.

Meanwhile,ย AT&Tย is expanding fiber internet service in Mesa, Arizona. The company expects to reach local residents later this year, complementing Corningโ€™s manufacturing investment and strengthening digital infrastructure across the region.

Corning Cable Manufacturing Expansion Drives Workforce Growth

The broadband industry will need about 850,000 additional skilled workers by 2025. To meet this demand, Corning and AT&T created theย Fiber Optic Training Program. This initiative trains thousands of new technicians in fiber design, installation, and maintenance.

The first class began in North Carolina and aims to prepare 50,000 American workers over the next five years. By pairing advanced manufacturing with handsโ€‘on workforce training, Corning continues to build both the technology and the talent driving Americaโ€™s fiberโ€‘powered future.
