Danieli’s 500th rolling mill has begun production of wire rod for Pittini Group

Danieli Launches High-Speed Wire Rod Mill for Pittini Group

Danieli Group has launched a high-speed wire rod mill for Acciaierie di Verona, part of the Pittini Group. This milestone marks the company’s 500th rolling mill worldwide. As a result, Danieli continues to strengthen its global leadership in steel technology.

Danieli Wire Rod Mill Pittini Group Project Overview

The Danieli wire rod mill Pittini Group project reached production quickly. In fact, the team produced the first coil just 19 months after signing the contract. This fast delivery highlights the strong long-term partnership between both companies.

Moreover, during a seven-week hot testing phase, the plant produced 25,000 tons of high-quality wire rod. This result confirms stable performance and efficient operations.

Advanced Technology and Production Capacity

Danieli designed the mill to meet strict size tolerances. At the same time, it integrates advanced wire rod technology and meets Industry 4.0 standards.

The facility can produce:

  • Up to 750,000 metric tons per year
  • Wire rod from 5.5 mm to 25 mm
  • Rebar from 6 mm to 18 mm
  • Rolling speeds up to 100 meters per second

Key Features of the Rolling Mill

The mill uses a high-speed roughing system to feed two rolling lines. Each line includes cantilever roll stands, which allow quick roll changes. In addition, operators can maintain precise temperature control throughout the process.

High-speed shears handle head and tail cropping. Meanwhile, twin-module sizing blocks ensure consistent shaping. The fourth-generation loop layers reduce vibration and extend equipment life. As a result, the system produces smooth and uniform loops.

Furthermore, the variable-pitch cooling conveyor supports flexible cooling. It adjusts from slow to ultra-fast speeds, improving final product quality.

Digital Automation and Industry 4.0 Integration

The plant relies on the Danieli Automation Q3 Intelligence system. This system collects and analyzes data across the entire operation. As a result, operators gain access to real-time insights and key performance indicators (KPIs).

In addition, the platform supports data-driven decisions and improves coordination. It also connects to Big Data systems, strengthening overall plant digitalization.
