Hengtong Egypt Fiber Cable Factory Launches in Cairo
The Hengtong Egypt fiber cable factory marks a major milestone in regional telecom manufacturing. Hengtong Optic-Electric partnered with HitekNOFAL Group to launch a new production facility in Cairo’s Badr Industrial City.

Advanced Manufacturing and Production Capacity
The new facility spans 33,000 square meters and uses highly automated systems. It can produce more than one million kilometers of fiber optic cable annually. As a result, the factory will significantly increase local supply.
In addition, the company plans to expand operations. It aims to build a second plant and invest $30 million over the next three years. Moreover, it targets 80% local component sourcing by 2021.
Meeting Rising Demand in Egypt
Egypt continues to see strong demand for fiber optic cables. Currently, the market still depends heavily on imports. However, this new factory will help reduce that reliance.
At the same time, Telecom Egypt continues to replace copper networks with fiber. The company has already completed 40% of the transition. Therefore, demand for fiber infrastructure will continue to grow.
Technology Transfer and Innovation
The Hengtong Egypt fiber cable factory will introduce advanced preform manufacturing technology, which produces the core component of fiber cables. This process remains limited to a few global manufacturers.
Additionally, the facility will produce micro-trenching cables. This technology allows faster installation with minimal road disruption. As a result, it supports efficient network expansion.
Supporting National Telecom Strategy
Egypt’s government views fiber optics as a key part of its digital infrastructure strategy. Officials, including the Minister of Communications, emphasized the importance of expanding fiber networks nationwide.
HitekNOFAL also plans to train local talent and build technical expertise. With over 30 years of experience, the company aims to strengthen Egypt’s position in telecom manufacturing and expand exports into African markets.
