Elsewedy Electric inaugurates wire and cable plant in Tanzanian industrial park

Elsewedy Electric Tanzania Factory Launches New Industrial Hub

Elsewedy Electricย of Egypt (visit Elsewedy Electric) held an inauguration ceremony in Tanzania for a new industrial complex and electric cable factory. Senior officials from both Egypt and Tanzania attended, so the event highlighted the projectโ€™s regional importance.

Tanzania Presidentย Samia Suluhu Hassanย laid the foundation stone for a site of more thanย 120,000 sq m. The Elsewedy Electric Tanzania factory will employ aboutย 500 peopleย and produceย 15,000 metric tons of power cables,ย 1,500 transformers, andย 100,000 electricity metersย each year. When fully operational, it will be the first facility of this type inย Subโ€‘Saharan Africa.

Elsewedy Electric Tanzania Factory Within a Large Industrial Park

The new factory sits inside aย 2.2โ€‘millionโ€‘sqโ€‘m industrial parkย that Elsewedy Electric is developing for laborโ€‘intensive industries. In the first phase, the company plans to investย $200 million. As a result, the project will support construction of up toย 100 manufacturing facilitiesย in theย Kigamboniย industrial zone.

Elsewedyโ€™s subsidiary,ย Elsewedy Industrial Development, leads the parkโ€™s development to backย Tanzaniaโ€™s Industrialization Strategy 2025. The aim is to boost local manufacturing, create new jobs, and expand export capacity.

Strategic African Expansion and Regional Export Hub

Company President and CEOย Ahmed Elsewedyย explained that Elsewedy Electric began its Africa expansion aboutย 20 years ago. Since then, it has viewed Tanzania as a priority thanks to its favorable investment climate and strong government support.

The new complex will act as aย manufacturing and export hubย at the center of East and Southern Africa. Because Tanzania bordersย eight countries, six of them landlocked, the site can efficiently supply cables, transformers, and meters to multiple neighboring markets. This positions the Elsewedy Electric Tanzania factory as a key driver of regional power infrastructure growth.
