Leoni AGย announced it will close itsย Chicopee, Massachusettsย manufacturing facility byย February 4. Theย Leoni Chicopee plant closureย will end more than three decades of cable production and result inย the loss of about 80 jobs. Leoni Chicopee Plant Closure Followed Unsuccessful Sale Efforts
Leoni explained that it made every effort to keep the Chicopee facility open. The company heldย detailed discussions with multiple potential investors, but none could provide a sustainable longโterm plan. As a result, management decided to close the plant once operations wind down in early February.
The Chicopee facility specializes inย cables, ropes, andย braidsย forย aerospace,ย data communication, andย industrial applications. However, despite its strong technical base, the operation no longer fits Leoniโs global strategy.
Strategic Focus on Automotive Wiring
A company spokesperson confirmed that the decision aligns with Leoniโs broader transformation plan. โOur primary goal is to solidify Leoniโs position as a leader inย automotive wiring systems,โ the representative said. โThis focus means divesting nonโcore business units that no longer match our longโterm objectives.โ
Inย 2021, Leoni sold itsย Wire & Cable Solutionsย division toย BizLink Holding Inc.. That deal advanced the companyโs vision to streamline around itsย Wiring Systems Division, which supports automakers worldwide.
