Hengtong Egypt Fiber Optic Expansion Announced
Hengtong, one of Chinaโs largest fiber optic cable manufacturers, plans to expand its factory in theย China-Egypt TEDA zoneย within Egyptโsย Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE). Theย Hengtong Egypt fiber optic expansionย will support fast-growing demand for telecom and national infrastructure projects across the country.
Investment, Capacity Goals, and Site Details
Hengtong intends to investย $18 millionย in this expansion so it can produce up toย two million km of optical cables per year. This new phase builds on an agreement with theย SCZONEย authority, which oversees industrial and logistics development in the region.
Under the pact, Hengtong will add aroundย 21,000 sq mย to its existing facility in theย Sokhna Industrial Zone, a key part of SCZONE that supports light, medium, and heavy manufacturing as well as commercial and business activities across an area of aboutย 210 km.
Supporting Egyptian Telecom and National Projects
The additional capacity from theย Hengtong Egypt fiber optic expansionย will supply cables for major Egyptian national projects, including theย Decent Life Initiative, and for the state-owned telecom operatorย Telecom Egyptย (telecomegypt.com.eg). These projects aim to strengthen digital infrastructure, expand broadband access, and improve connectivity for communities across Egypt.
Hengtongโs first factory phase in SCZONE began operations inย March 2023ย with an initial investment ofย $6 million. The new expansion phase builds on that foundation and further anchors Hengtongโs presence in Egyptโs strategic industrial corridor.
