Hexatronic signs deal to buy Rochester Cable from TE Connectivity for $55 million

Hexatronic Rochester Cable Acquisition Terms

Hexatronic Group AB has signed a binding asset purchase agreement to acquire all business activities of Rochester Cable from TE Connectivity. The company will pay $55 million for the U.S.-based cable designer and manufacturer in Culpeper, Virginia, which employs about 130 people and operates a 40,000 sq m production site.

The transaction includes the land and buildings used for the operations. It remains subject to regulatory approvals, and both parties expect to close the deal no later than March 31, 2023.

Broader Subsea and Electro-Optical Cable Offering

Through the Hexatronic Rochester Cable acquisition, Hexatronic widens its offering beyond fiber optic submarine communication cables. It now adds dynamic working cables that transmit electrical signals and power alongside optical signals.

Rochester Cable designs highly engineered electroโ€‘optical cables for harsh environments and demanding specifications. These products serve industries such as oil and gas, sensing, defense, oceanographic research, and subsea applications, with sales mainly in the U.S. and additional business in EMEA and APAC.

Capacity Investments and Growth Potential

Over the last decade, TE Connectivity invested heavily to increase capacity at the Culpeper facility. Those investments created a modern plant with strong potential for further growth.

Because the deal includes the land, manufacturing buildings, and offices, Hexatronic gains full control of a scalable U.S. production base. This platform supports future expansion and closer service to North American and global customers.

Strategic Fit with Hexatronicโ€™s Submarine Cable Business

Hexatronic has supplied fiber optic submarine communication cables since the 1990s. CEO Henrik Larsson Lyon says the company feels pleased to reach an agreement with TE Connectivity, noting that Rochester Cable holds unique knowโ€‘how and application expertise built over decades as a market leader.

By combining Rochesterโ€™s U.S. footprint and electroโ€‘optical product range with Hexatronicโ€™s submarine cable business in Sweden, Hexatronic sees exciting longโ€‘term opportunities. The integrated portfolio will help address a wider range of subsea communication, power, and sensing projects worldwide.
