Hitachi Cable America to be acquired by Bain, deal expected to close in early 2023

Hitachi Cable America enters a new growth phase as theย Hitachi Cable America Bain acquisition rebrandย progresses and the company prepares to operate under the Proterial Cable America name.

Bain Capital Acquisition and Ownership Change

Hitachi Metals Limited (HML) agreed to an acquisition led by a Bainโ€‘Capitalโ€‘headed consortium that includes Hitachi Cable America (HCA). The investor group values HMLโ€™s R&D strength, deep customer relationships, and strong technology across its core business units.

HCA notes that Bain aims to enhance competitiveness in highโ€‘growth sectors rather than cut operations. The company also emphasizes that it does not expect plant closures and that HCA will continue to operate as a U.S. company after the transaction.

Investment and Growth Under the Hitachi Cable America Bain Acquisition

HCA views theย Hitachi Cable America Bain acquisitionย as a positive step that fits its ongoing investment strategy. The business continues to invest in manufacturing capabilities, new machinery, advanced quality control, R&D, and capacity expansions.

Leadership reaffirms its commitment to premium products and strong technical support. They also highlight that Bainโ€™s financial backing will help accelerate these investments and position the company for further growth in key markets.

HCA Divisions and U.S. Cable Manufacturing

HCA operates three main divisions: the Performance Cable Systems & Materials Division with about 240 employees, the Automotive Products Division with roughly 100 employees, and the High Performance Medical Solutions Division with around 180 employees.

The Performance Cable division runs a 300,000โ€‘squareโ€‘foot plant in Manchester, New Hampshire. This facility designs and manufactures advanced copper and fiberโ€‘optic communication cables for demanding data, industrial, and networking applications.

Rebranding to Proterial Cable America

As part of the agreement, HCA will rebrand on Jan. 4, 2023. The company will adopt the new nameย Proterial Cable America, a portmanteau of โ€œprofessionalโ€ and โ€œmaterial.โ€

The new identity reflects a focus on professionalโ€‘grade materials, engineered performance, and longโ€‘term reliability, while maintaining HCAโ€™s U.S. manufacturing base and established customer relationships.
