JDR Cable Systems Eolmed Offshore Wind Project Advances France’s Clean Energy Goals
JDR Cable Systems, part of the TFK Group, signed a contract to supply and install 66 kV dynamic inter‑array cables for Qair’s Eolmed floating offshore wind project in southern France. This important project further strengthens JDR’s global leadership in offshore renewable power solutions.
Building Offshore Wind Infrastructure in France
The Eolmed wind farm will sit 18 kilometers off the coast near Gruissan and Port‑La‑Nouvelle in the Occitanie region. When complete, it will produce around 100 million kWh of electricity each year, connecting directly to the French Electricity Transmission Network (RTE).
The site will feature three floating turbines anchored in 60‑meter‑deep waters. Together, they will generate 30 megawatts of renewable capacity. This development adds a key milestone to France’s growing offshore wind portfolio.
Coordinated Production Across Europe
JDR will manufacture the 66 kV cables at TFK Group’s Bydgoszcz plant in Poland and complete assembly and testing at its Hartlepool facility in the U.K. The company aims to complete the project by the second half of 2024.
According to John Price, Sales Director at JDR, experience gained from the Eoliennes Flottantes du Golfe du Lion project helped refine new technical approaches. “Each offshore project teaches us more about working efficiently in deeper waters,” he said.
JDR Cable Systems Eolmed Offshore Wind Project Supports France’s 2050 Vision
This initiative aligns with France’s plan to reach 40 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2050. Currently, about 50 projects drive this goal. Qair Group, a global renewable energy developer, manages four of France’s first eight offshore tenders and continues to push innovation in floating wind markets.
