Leoni Expands Cuauhtémoc Plant With $16.8 Million Investment

Leoni AG (official site) announced a major expansion of its Cuauhtémoc plant in Chihuahua, Mexico. The company plans to invest $16.8 million over the next five years to meet growing demand for automotive cables in North America. The investment also includes new production equipment and facility upgrades.

Leoni Cuauhtémoc Plant Expansion Strengthens Regional Growth

The Leoni Cuauhtémoc plant expansion will create at least 30 new jobs, supporting local employment and regional economic development. The facility, which opened in 1998, has become a cornerstone of Leoni’s North American operations.
During the celebration, Bill Livengood, President of Leoni Cables North America, thanked the State of Chihuahua and the City of Cuauhtémoc for their continued collaboration.

Among those attending were Governor Maria Eugenia CamposSecretary of State for Economic Affairs Maria Angelica Granados, and other local dignitaries. Their presence underscored the region’s commitment to fostering international investment and industrial growth.

Boosting Capacity for Advanced Automotive Cable Production

The Cuauhtémoc facility produces an extensive range of automotive cables, from single‑core wires to multi‑core data cables for electric and autonomous vehicles. With this expansion, Leoni aims to sharpen its competitive edge by improving production speed, efficiency, and reliability.
Moreover, the new space will allow the company to deliver quicker responses to complex customer demands across the NAFTA market.

EMOMEX Project Reinforces E‑Mobility Capabilities

Earlier in 2020, Leoni completed Phase I of the EMOMEX (E‑Mobility Mexico) project. The $27 million initiative added new equipment for the design and production of high‑voltage cables and charging systems. More than 120 employees joined the facility as part of this effort.
This project laid the foundation for Leoni’s growing role in the electric vehicle supply chain. The current expansion builds on that momentum, positioning Leoni as a key partner in sustainable automotive innovation.

Leoni’s Ongoing Commitment to Innovation

With its new investment in Cuauhtémoc, Leoni continues to strengthen its presence in North America’s automotive and e‑mobility markets. The company remains committed to technological advancement, job creation, and sustainable manufacturing that supports global transportation’s electric future.
