Leviton reports making major investment in solar energy at its plant in Glenrothes

Leviton Boosts Solar Power at Glenrothes Plant

Levitonย will investย ยฃ600,000ย in newย solar energyย capacity at its manufacturing plant inย Glenrothes, Scotland. The site already operates as aย carbonโ€‘neutral facilityย and serves as the headquarters forย Leviton Network Solutions EMEA. It producesย fiber optic and copper cabling, as well asย madeโ€‘toโ€‘order preโ€‘terminated cable assemblies.

This solar project forms part of aย multiโ€‘millionโ€‘pound site upgrade. The broader plan also addsย new production equipmentย and aย customer showroomย at Glenrothes, further strengthening Levitonโ€™s European manufacturing base.

Leviton CN2030 Solar Investment Glenrothes Supports Emission Cuts

โ€œThe ability to generate solar energy onsite will help us offset soaring energy costs in the U.K. and supports our commitment to reducing carbon emissions, developing clean, renewable energy, and reducing our carbon footprint,โ€ saidย Ian Wilkie,ย Managing Director, Leviton Network Solutions Europe. He noted that, once the system goes live, the solar panels will lower the plantโ€™s annual energy needs.

Planning and network approvals already exist for the project. Leviton expects installation to start inย Januaryย and finish inย early 2023, so the site can begin benefiting quickly from selfโ€‘generated clean power.

โ€œLeviton is investing back into the business on a global scale, and we are doing it with sustainability at the forefront of our thinking,โ€ saidย Ross Goldman,ย Executive Vice President and General Manager of Leviton Network Solutions, and the companyโ€™sย Chief Sustainability Officer.

Solar Project Advances Levitonโ€™s CN2030 Goals

The Glenrothes solar installation directly supportsย Levitonโ€™s CN2030 sustainability program. Through CN2030, the company aims to reachย companyโ€‘wide carbon neutrality by 2030ย andย NetZero carbon by 2050. The program focuses on several pillars, includingย carbon reduction, energy efficiency, waste and recycling, water stewardship, and product innovation.

By pairingย rooftop solarย with aย carbonโ€‘neutral manufacturing operation, Leviton reduces its own emissions and helps customers lower the embedded carbon in the cabling solutions they specify. For more details on its sustainability roadmap, visitย Leviton Sustainability.
