LS Cable & System reports a record cable order from Europe for wind farm project

LS Cable & System announced on October 20 that it won a $166 million contract to supply high-voltage cables for the Boreas Offshore Wind Farm in the North Sea. This deal is the largest European order ever received by a South Korean cable company. It also reinforces LS Cable & Systemโ€™s expanding leadership in global renewable energy markets.

Supplying Power to the Boreas Wind Farm

The Boreas Offshore Wind Farm, developed by Swedenโ€™s state-ownedย Vattenfall, sits near Norfolk on Englandโ€™s eastern coast. When completed in 2026, it will generate about 1.3 gigawatts (GW) of clean electricity. Thatโ€™s roughly equivalent to the output of a single nuclear power plant and enough to power hundreds of thousands of homes.

LS Cable & System will supply 320-kilovolt (kV) ultra-high-voltage direct current (HVDC) submarine and underground cables. The project also introduces cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation to the companyโ€™s HVDC line. This innovation improves energy efficiency, boosts performance, and simplifies offshore power transmission.

LS Cable & System Wind Farm Contract Spurs Market Expansion

The LS Cable & System wind farm contract strengthens the companyโ€™s global growth strategy. XLPE cables have become the preferred choice for renewable energy projects because they install easily, connect seamlessly, and need less maintenance. Yet, only a few manufacturers can produce them reliably, making LS Cable & Systemโ€™s achievement especially significant.

With this milestone,ย LS Cable & Systemย plans to speed up its expansion into Europe, North America, and Asia. As renewable energy projects multiply worldwide, the demand for durable HVDC cable systems continues to rise. By leading in XLPE technology, LS Cable & System is helping the world shift toward cleaner, more efficient power generation.
