LS Cable & System Ørsted Taiwan Cable Supply Expands Asia-Pacific Offshore Reach
LS Cable & System signed an agreement with Ørsted to deliver high‑voltage submarine cables for major renewable energy projects in Taiwan. This new partnership builds on several years of strong collaboration between the two companies and further strengthens their presence in the Asia‑Pacific offshore market.
Powering Taiwan’s Largest Offshore Wind Projects
Under this agreement, LS Cable & System will supply submarine cables for Ørsted’s Greater Changhua 2b and 4 wind farms. Located 35 to 60 kilometers off the Changhua coast, the sites will generate about 920 megawatts (MW) of electricity once complete in 2025. These projects will become some of the largest offshore wind farms in the region.
Supporting Taiwan’s Renewable Energy Goals
With this order, LS Cable & System now supplies all eight projects in Taiwan’s Phase 1 Offshore Windfarm Construction Plan. Since 2019, the company has secured nearly ₩1 trillion KRW (US $776 million) in offshore cable orders from Taiwan.
The Taiwanese government plans to achieve 5.5 GW of offshore wind power by 2025, followed by another 15 GW by 2035. As the market grows, LS Cable & System expects demand for submarine cables to reach ₩3 trillion KRW (about US $2.3 billion)—presenting significant business opportunities.
LS Cable & System Ørsted Taiwan Cable Supply Builds Offshore Expertise
LS Cable & System continues strengthening its offshore capabilities through strategic investments. In December, the company acquired a 16% stake in KT Submarine for about US $19.3 million. KT Submarine specializes in installing and repairing underwater cables, adding key construction expertise to LS’s portfolio.
The company also holds a call option that could make it KT Submarine’s largest shareholder. Currently, only around five companies worldwide manufacture and install submarine cables. Among them, LS Cable & System stands as the sole Korean company with both capabilities.
