LS Cable & System and DEME to Deliver HVDC Export Cables

The LS C&Sโ€“DEME consortium will manage theย design, engineering, procurement, manufacturing and testingย of High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) export cables for the entireย Norfolk Offshore Wind Zone. The scope includes aboutย 180 km of HVDC export cables onshoreย and aroundย 320 km offshore, connecting the wind zone to theย U.K. national transmission grid.

Located approximatelyย 47 km off the Norfolk coast, Vattenfallโ€™s Norfolk Offshore Wind Zone will generateย clean power for more than four million homesย when fully operational. The partners plan to execute the cable works duringย 2027 and 2028ย using aย cableโ€‘laying vessel, aย trailing suction hopper dredger, and aย fallpipe vesselย from the DEME fleet.

Renewable-Energy Manufactured Export Cables

โ€œWe are pleased to announce the 320 kV offshore cable being supplied by LS Cable & System will be manufactured solely using renewable energy, which is also certified by LSโ€™s Environmental Product Declaration Certification,โ€ saidย Hyungwon Kim, Executive atย LS C&S.

โ€œWeโ€™re delighted to have taken the next step with LS Cable & System and DEME Group who will provide the export cables for the whole Norfolk Offshore Wind Zone,โ€ saidย Catrin Jung,ย Head of Offshore Wind at Vattenfall. โ€œThis is a big milestone for the project, which is vital to deliver fossilโ€‘free living within a generation.โ€

Growing Project Portfolio for LS Cable & System

This latest win forย LS Cable & Systemย follows a recent export cable contract for Vattenfallโ€™sย Norfolk Boreas Wind Farm, which also covers design, engineering, procurement, manufacturing and testing of approximatelyย 360 km of HVDC export cable.

In addition, Vattenfallโ€™sย Norfolk Offshore Wind Zoneย received theย National Infrastructure Planning Association (NIPA) Best Projectย award last November, highlighting the zoneโ€™s importance within the U.K.โ€™s clean energy transition.
