Nexans gets order from Italian utility for 6,000 km of power distribution cable

Nexans Wins Major Contract for Nexans Low-Carbon Cable Supply in Italy

Nexansย has secured a major contract for theย Nexans Low-Carbon Cable Supply in Italy, deliveringย 6,000 km of low- and medium-voltage power distribution cablesย to a leading Italian utility. The project demonstrates Nexansโ€™ continued leadership in sustainable manufacturing and its role in advancingย Europeโ€™s energy transition.

Powering Italyโ€™s Decarbonized Electrification Goals

The cables will be produced at Nexansโ€™ advanced facility inย Battipaglia, Italy, which usesย 100% certified low-carbon aluminum. Depending on the product type, this innovative material can cutย greenhouse gas emissions by 35% to 50%.

Over the nextย 16 months, Nexans will supply cables designed forย underground power linesโ€”systems that offer greater durability and resistance toย extreme weather events. These improvements will help Italyโ€™s energy network remain stable even as climate challenges intensify.

Nexans at the Core of Europeโ€™s Energy Transition

โ€œNexans stands at the heart of decarbonized electrification in Italy and across Europe,โ€ saidย Elyette Roux, Vice President of Power Distribution Cables and Accessories at Nexans. โ€œThis agreement underscores the shared commitment of both companies to advancing the global energy transition.โ€

Strengthening Efficiency with ULTRACKER DRUMS Technology

In addition to cable supply, Nexans will provide itsย ULTRACKER DRUMSย solution. This smart logistics system enables the utility to manage cable deliveries efficiently throughย real-time geolocationย powered byย edge-computing technologies.

The system offers several advantages, including:

  • Real-time shipment tracking and follow-up

  • Remote monitoring and theft detection

  • Management of residual cable length

  • Streamlined collection and reuse of drums

These digital tracking features help utilities improve efficiency, reduce losses, and maintain better project control.

Reinforcing Sustainable Energy Infrastructure

With the implementation of low-carbon materials and smart delivery tools, Nexans continues to lead the move toward a moreย sustainable electricity infrastructureย in Europe. This initiative supports both Italyโ€™sย decarbonization goalsย and Nexansโ€™ broader mission of connecting communities through safe, efficient, and eco-conscious technologies.
