Denmark-based NKT has joined the First Movers Coalition (FMC), reinforcing its leadership in advancing low-carbon aluminum across global supply chains. This partnership highlights NKTโs mission to cut the carbon footprint of its power cable production and support the global energy transition.
The FMC, led by the World Economic Forum, brings together leading companies to speed up decarbonization in hard-to-abate industries. By joining the FMCโs aluminum sector, NKT commits to sourcing at least 10% of its annual primary aluminum from low-carbon production by 2030. This pledge aligns with the coalitionโs strict emissions standards.
This commitment marks a key step in NKTโs plan to reduce the carbon intensity of its cables. It supports both the companyโs sustainability goals and those of its clients. The companyโs push for greener materials is already visible. In April 2025, NKT signed an agreement with Hydro for REDUXA 4.0 aluminum. Produced with renewable energy, this aluminum has a carbon footprint 75% lower than the global average.
NKT also secured first rights to Hydroโs upcoming REDUXA 3.0, reinforcing its central role in Europeโs energy transition and grid modernization. This collaboration sends a strong signal to the market, promoting early adoption of climate technologies and solidifying NKTโs reputation as a proactive leader in sustainable infrastructure development.
