NKT enters contract for copper supply

NKT Secures Long-Term Copper Rod Supply From KGHM

NKTย has signed a long-termย NKT KGHM copper rod supplyย agreement with European copper producerย KGHM S.A.ย to secure key raw materials from 2023 to 2027. The deal supports NKTโ€™s cable manufacturing as renewable energy projects drive stronger copper demand across Europe.

Contract Details and Supply Volumes

Under the agreement, KGHM will deliver at least 52,500 metric tons of copper wire rod per year for the 2023โ€“2027 period. The contract also includes options to increase annual volumes and to extend the term in future, giving both companies flexibility as market needs change.

NKT President and CEO Claes Westerlind said the company welcomes the strengthened partnership with KGHM. He also emphasized the benefit of sourcing copper close to NKTโ€™s main European operations, which can lower transport emissions and support its broader sustainability goals.

Certified Supply and Shared Sustainability Goals

KGHMย runs an integrated copper business, including its own mines, smelters, refineries, and rod plants in Europe. Its Gล‚ogรณw and Legnica smelter/refineries and the Cedynia wire rod plant all holdย Copper Markย certification, which recognizes responsible copper mining and production.

To match its goal of connecting a greener world,ย NKTย has also joined theย Copper Markย initiative. Through theย NKT KGHM copper rod supplyย agreement, both companies link secure supply with independently verified sustainability standards.
