Prysmian finalizes contract to supply cable for the Eastern Green Link 2 Limited project

Prysmian Groupย has finalized aย โ‚ฌ1.9 billion contractย withย Eastern Green Link 2 Limited (EGL2). The project will strengthen the U.K.โ€™s renewable energy grid by sending clean electricity fromย Scotland to England.

This major project partnersย SSEN Transmissionย andย National Grid Electricity Transmission plc. Together, they plan to create a crucial north-to-south power connection calledย Eastern Green Link 2. It will be among the first U.K. cable systems to useย 525 kV HVDC (High-Voltage Direct Current)ย technology withย extruded XLPE insulation. This advanced system will move renewable power more efficiently across long distances.

Prysmian willย design, manufacture, install, test, and commissionย the HVDC cable system. It will carry up toย 2 GWย of electricityโ€”enough energy for aboutย two million homes.

Hakan Ozmen,ย EVP Transmission BU at Prysmian, said the project is a milestone for the U.K.โ€™s clean energy future. He explained that this โ€œelectrical superhighwayโ€ will unlock Scotlandโ€™s renewable resources and boost the U.K.โ€™s energy capacity.

Last year, Prysmian became theย exclusive preferred bidderย for the project. Since then, the company has remained committed to ensuring reliable cable supply and technical excellence. The new system is expected to start operating inย 2029. When complete, it will help the U.K. deliver more clean power, faster and more efficiently.
