Prysmian Group Named Preferred Bidder for Biscay Gulf Project

Prysmian Groupย (official site)ย announced that it was selected as a preferred bidder for theย Prysmian Group Biscay Gulf interconnectionย project. This cross-border initiative is managed byย INELFE, a joint venture betweenย Red Elรฉctricaย (site)ย of Spain andย Rรฉseau de Transport dโ€™ร‰lectricitรฉ (RTE)ย (site)ย of France.

Building Europeโ€™s First Submarine Connection Between Spain and France

This project will create theย first submarine power linkย betweenย Spain (Gatika)ย andย France (Cubnezais). It featuresย two high-voltage direct current (HVDC)ย connections, each capable of deliveringย 1,000 MW. Together, they will provideย 2 GW of new transfer capacityย between the two nations.

The system will use nearlyย 800 kilometers of HVDC submarine and land cables. As a result, the interconnection will strengthenย energy reliability, enhanceย grid stability, and supportย continued integration with the wider European power network.

Prysmian Group Biscay Gulf Interconnection Advances Energy Goals

The Biscay Gulf project also supportsย Europeโ€™s goal of cleaner, interconnected energy systems. It will improve power exchange efficiency, reduce bottlenecks, and create a more resilient electrical grid. Moreover, it helps build closer cooperation between theย Spanishย andย Frenchย transmission networks.
