Prysmian and FiberHome Resolve Patent Case
Prysmian Group has finalized the Prysmian FiberHome patent settlement, resolving infringement and invalidity proceedings in Germany with FiberHome Telecommunication Technologies Co., Ltd. The dispute concerned fiber optic cable products that Prysmian said infringed the German designations of its European Patents EP 2390700 B1 and EP 1,668,392 B1.
FiberHome responded by filing nullity actions before the German Federal Patent Court to challenge the patents’ validity. After extensive negotiations, both companies agreed on terms that apply to product sales made before the settlement date.
Fiber Patents at the Center of the Dispute
European Patent EP 1,668,392 B1 covers telecom optical cables with a reduced diameter that support compact, high‑density networks. European Patent EP 2390700 B1 relates to optical fiber cables that use an optimized stranded design to enhance performance and ease installation.
These patents form part of Prysmian’s wider portfolio of advanced fiber solutions for high‑speed broadband and telecom networks.
Settlement Terms and Regional Scope
Prysmian started legal proceedings in July 2020 before the District Court of Munich. Under the settlement, FiberHome made a net balancing payment to Prysmian that resolves issues linked to past product sales.
The agreement settles ongoing proceedings and any other potential past claims related to the same patent families in Germany, Spain, Poland and the Netherlands. However, it does not cover future product sales, which remain outside this deal.
Protecting Fiber R&D and Market Fairness
Prysmian views this result as another step in protecting its research and development investments in fiber optic technology. By enforcing its patents, the group aims to support fair competition and encourage deployment of next‑generation broadband infrastructure in key markets.
