Prysmian to build fiber network in Australia that will add 20,000 km of optical fiber cable

Prysmian Group Telstra Fiber Project Expands Australiaโ€™s Network

Prysmian Groupย has teamed up withย Telstra InfraCo, Australiaโ€™s largest telecommunications provider, to develop a newย inter-capital dual fiber path network. Theย Prysmian Group Telstra fiber projectย will install up toย 20,000 kilometersย of optical fiber cable, strengthening both national and regional internet capacity.

This long-term partnership will deliver faster, more reliable connectivity that supports Australiaโ€™s growing digital economy.

Strengthening National Fiber Infrastructure

Telstraโ€™s new network will link major capital cities through aย high-performance dual fiber pathย designed for greater speed and data security. At the same time, it will extend advanced broadband coverage into regional areas.

The project leverages Prysmianโ€™s innovative technology to improve data performance, reduce latency, and deliver higher-capacity communications infrastructure across the country.

Advancing Local Cable Technology

Engineers from Prysmian and Telstra InfraCo developed aย next-generation optical cable systemย built in Prysmianโ€™s Sydneyย R&D Lab. The design usesย high-strength, low-loss fiberย capable of long-distance deployment in challenging Australian terrain.

In addition, the system includesย Prysmianโ€™s BendBrightยฎ G.657.A2 Low Loss fiber, which improves durability and minimizes signal loss. The cable will beย manufactured locallyย at Prysmianโ€™s Northern Beaches factory in Sydney.

Creating Jobs Through Local Manufacturing

To support production, Prysmian is expanding itsย Dee Why, Sydneyย manufacturing plant. This investment will increase production capacity, create skilled jobs, and push Australiaโ€™s fiber manufacturing capabilities to a global level.

Furthermore, the project will reinforce the nationโ€™s local supply chain, ensuring faster delivery and reduced dependency on imports.

Powering the Future of Australian Connectivity

โ€œAs demand for broadband rises, so does the need for greater fiber capacity,โ€ saidย Philippe Vanhille, Executive Vice President of Telecom at Prysmian Group. โ€œThis project delivers the ultra-fast data rates and reliability required for Australiaโ€™s digital future.โ€

Through local innovation and international expertise, theย Prysmian Group Telstra fiber projectย helps build a resilient, high-speed network ready for next-generation technology.
