Prysmian to expand its optical cable manufacturing plant in Australia

Prysmian Expands Optical Cable Manufacturing to Support Telstra InfraCo Network

Theย Prysmian Australia Optical Cable Plant Expansionย represents a major investment byย Prysmian Groupย to increase optical fiber production capacity inย Dee Why, New South Wales. The expansion supportsย Telstra InfraCoย in delivering Australiaโ€™s intercity fiber networkโ€”an initiative designed to boost national connectivity and future-proof digital infrastructure.

Strengthening Australiaโ€™s Intercity Fiber Network

Theย Prysmian Australia expansionย will enhance the companyโ€™s ability to produce advanced fiber optic cable designed forย Telstraโ€™s intercity network, which aims to improve Australiaโ€™s digital infrastructure. Prysmian will manufacture state-of-the-art,ย locally made optical fiber cablesย at its Dee Why facility to support the projectโ€™s expanding scale.

Telstra InfraCoโ€™s intercity fiber networkย connects Australiaโ€™s major population centers and is designed to handle future demand for faster, more reliable data transmission. Prysmian has supported Telstra sinceย 1998, investing more thanย A$20 millionย in the NSW facility over time.

Continued Partnership with Telstra InfraCo

Brendon Riley, CEO of Telstra InfraCo, emphasized the networkโ€™s importance: โ€œThis intercity fiber project will future-proof Australiaโ€™s connectivity for the next 20 years. Weโ€™ve already laid hundreds of kilometers of cable and are planning additional routes connecting all mainland capitals.โ€

Meanwhile,ย Frederick Persson, Executive Vice President of Digital Solutions at Prysmian, said, โ€œOur partnership with Telstra represents two years of research and innovation. Together, weโ€™ve developed a world-leading optical fiber cable that meets todayโ€™s capacity and latency demands while preparing for tomorrowโ€™s challenges.โ€

Prysmian Australia Expansion Delivers Sustainable, High-Performance Design

The newย Prysmian optical fiber cableย isย 59% smallerย andย 54% lighterย than the previous design, reducingย COโ‚‚ emissionsย by aboutย 35,000 metric tonsย across production and transport. This sustainable innovation aligns with Prysmianโ€™s global focus on reducing carbon impact and delivering environmentally responsible solutions.

Furthermore, Prysmian has invested inย three key production areasย to expand output capacity at its Dee Why facility. This upgrade strengthens local manufacturing, research, and development capabilities while reinforcing Australiaโ€™s self-sufficiency in high-quality telecommunications infrastructure.

Enhancing Innovation Through Local Manufacturing

Prysmian Australiaย continues to evolve its operations to maintain its regional leadership inย telecom cables and fiber solutions. With world-class R&D, logistics, and manufacturing expertise, the company remainsย Telstraโ€™s exclusive strategic cable supplierโ€”one of only a few globally trusted customers under Prysmianโ€™s network of strategic partnerships.
