Prysmian wins 2 big cable contracts, plans to build U.S. cable plant to make some of it

Prysmian Group Secures Major Offshore Wind Contracts in the U.S.

Theย Prysmian Groupย has secured two majorย Prysmian U.S. offshore wind projectsย worth nearlyย $900 million. These projects mark an important step in the companyโ€™s plan to strengthen its position in the American renewable energy market.

Vineyard Wind: Powering Connecticutโ€™s Clean Grid

The first contract, valued at aboutย $300 million, supports theย Vineyard Windย initiativeโ€”anย 804 MW Park City offshore wind farmย developed byย Avangrid Renewablesย andย Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners.

Prysmian will design and installย HVAC 275 kV three-core submarine cablesย featuring XLPE insulation and single-wire armoring. These cables will connect the wind farm directly to Connecticutโ€™s power grid. Production will take place at the companyโ€™s plants inย Arco Felice, Italy, andย Pikkala, Finland. Meanwhile, advanced vesselsโ€”Leonardo da Vinciย andย Ulisseโ€”will handle installation. Delivery and commissioning are scheduled forย 2026.

Commonwealth Wind: Expanding Massachusettsโ€™ Renewable Energy

Theย Commonwealth Wind (CW)ย project, valued at aroundย $580 million, is even larger. It includes up to three submarine export links that will connect theย 1,200 MW wind farmย to theย Massachusettsย grid.

To support this effort, Prysmian will build aย new cable manufacturing plantย at Brayton Point in Somerset, Massachusetts. Once a coal-fired power site, the area will now become an anchor for U.S. renewable energy production. The companyโ€™s ongoingย Prysmian U.S. offshore wind projectsย reflect its commitment to local investment and sustainable growth.

Brayton Point Facility: Creating Jobs and Local Value

The upcoming Brayton Point facility represents a major step in localizing cable production. Once construction begins, it could createย more than 200 jobs. This facility will also shorten supply chains and reduce production times for future wind projects.

Additionally,ย CommonWealth Magazineย reported thatย Avangrid Renewablesย encouraged Prysmian to open the plant by committing to future orders, further supporting Prysmianโ€™s long-term U.S. strategy.

Strengthening Offshore Wind Leadership

โ€œThese new projects confirm Prysmianโ€™s strong role in advancing renewable energy in the United States,โ€ saidย Hakan Ozmen, Executive President of Prysmian Group. โ€œWith the continued support of Massachusetts and our project partners, weโ€™re ready to expand our U.S. operations and help lead the nationโ€™s clean energy transition.โ€

As a result, Prysmian strengthens its North American portfolio, adding to major projects such asย SOO Green HVDC Link,ย Neptune,ย TransBay,ย Hudson River, andย Empire Wind. Together, theseย Prysmian U.S. offshore wind projectsย highlight the companyโ€™s leadership in delivering reliable, high-capacity renewable power solutions.
