Prysmian wins 3-year contract to upgrade the electrical grid cable lines of the U.K.

Prysmian Group NGED Cable Agreement Strengthens U.K. Grid

Prysmian Groupย (official site)ย announced that it has secured theย Prysmian Group NGED cable agreementย to support the modernization of theย U.K.โ€™s electricity grid. The deal builds on a long-standing relationship withย National Grid Electricity Distribution (NGED), the countryโ€™s largest electricity distribution network.

Prysmian Group NGED Cable Agreement Boosts Grid Modernization

Through itsย U.K. subsidiary, Prysmian signed aย medium-voltage cable framework agreementย with NGED that will last for aย minimum of three years. Under the agreement, the company willย manufacture and supply cable systemsย mainly from itsย Wrexham plant in North Wales.
This agreement supports NGEDโ€™s mission toย expand and upgradeย the U.K. network, ensuring more efficient and resilient power delivery.

Strategic Collaboration Strengthens U.K. Infrastructure

Over the years, Prysmian and NGED have worked together on multiple major energy infrastructure projects. Notable collaborations include:

  • North Sea Linkย โ€“ the worldโ€™s longest submarine electricity interconnector, linking the U.K. and Norway.

  • Viking Linkย โ€“ the first submarine connection between the U.K. and Denmark.

  • IFA2ย โ€“ a submarine and land cable link connecting France (Tourbe) to the U.K. (Hampshire).

  • Western HVDC Linkย โ€“ an interconnector between Scotland and England supporting renewable energy transmission.

Through these projects, Prysmian has helped enhanceย renewable energy integrationย andย power reliabilityย across Europe.

Hellenic Cables Expands Presence With Adriatic Submarine Project

Hellenic Cablesย (official site)ย also announced a new contract withย Croatiaโ€™s Konฤar Group. The company will deliverย 30 km of 110 kV high-voltage submarine cablesย for theย Adriatic Sea, replacing outdated infrastructure and supporting sustainable energy distribution.

Manufacturing and Delivery Through Corinth Facility

The production of these cables will begin this year atย Hellenic Cablesโ€™ Corinth plantย in Greece and conclude in earlyย 2024. The project includes the supply ofย accessories and engineering servicesย forย Konฤar Engineering Ltd., a regional leader inย power transmission and rail infrastructure.

Ensuring Reliable Energy Supply and Environmental Benefits

This marks theย second contractย between the two companies. Their first collaboration inย 2021ย successfully deliveredย 12 km of submarine cables.
Gordan Planiniฤ‡, MOB ofย Konฤar Engineering, said: โ€œOnce again, we selected Hellenic Cables for this vital project connecting the Croatian islands of Hvar, Korฤula, Cres, and Loลกinj. It ensures a reliable energy supply while helping protect the Adriatic Seaโ€™s environment.โ€
