SKET commissions 2 lines for Chinese producer of submarine power cables

SKET Hengtong Offshore Cable Production Project Marks Key Milestone

The SKET Hengtong offshore cable production project highlights a major advancement in high-voltage cable manufacturing. SKET Verseilmaschinenbau GmbH has successfully installed and commissioned two production lines for Hengtong Submarine Power Cable Co., Ltd. Learn more at https://www.sketvm.de and https://en.hengtonggroup.com.

Advanced Production Lines for High-Voltage Cables

SKET delivered a vertical stranding line and an armoring line to support the production of 220 kV offshore power cables. These cables feature XLPE insulation and can reach lengths of up to 27 km without joints.

Hengtong’s leadership team approved the lines after successful commissioning. As a result, the company can now produce extra-long submarine power cables for offshore energy projects.

Innovative Technology and Manufacturing Capabilities

The SKET Hengtong offshore cable production project incorporates advanced engineering solutions. SKET supplied specialized equipment, including:

  • bearing concept turntable
  • Taping units and bitumen systems
  • rigid strander for 500 mm² copper conductors

These technologies enable efficient production of long-length cables while maintaining high performance and durability.

Strategic Expansion into the Asian Market

This project represents SKET’s first collaboration with a Chinese cable manufacturer, marking an important step in its expansion into Asia.

At the same time, the offshore high-voltage cable segment continues to grow rapidly in China. For Hengtong, this project enables the production of joint-free offshore cables, which improves reliability and reduces installation risks.

The successful collaboration between SKET and Hengtong demonstrates strong technical expertise and effective project execution.
