Southern Cable wins $20 million cable deal, seeks UL certifications to sell cable in U.S.

Southern Cable Group Bhdย has landed a major contract to supply underground cables and conductors to Malaysiaโ€™s national utility provider,ย Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB). This deal strengthens Southern Cableโ€™s long partnership with TNB and highlights its continued growth in the power cable industry.

The latest contract follows an addendum agreement worth aroundย US$7 million, awarded in April 2023 to its wholly owned subsidiary, Southern Cable Sdn Bhd. To date, total orders from TNB have reached approximatelyย US$94 million, marking a significant contribution to the companyโ€™s performance.

Southern Cable generates more than 80% of its annual revenue from power cables and wires. Between 2021 and 2022, its sales achieved a compound annual growth rate ofย 27.8%, showing strong demand and steady expansion.

The company has served as a registered supplier for TNB for the past 19 years. During this time, it has built a trusted reputation for reliability and technical excellence. In addition to TNB, Southern Cable also provides products and services toย Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhdย andย Sarawak Energy Bhd.

Southern Cableโ€™s product portfolio includesย power cables, aluminum rods, andย rectifier system installationsย that support Malaysiaโ€™s growing 5G network. Its ability to innovate has helped it stay competitive in domestic and regional utility markets.

Looking ahead, the company aims to expand into theย U.S. market. According toย The Star, Southern Cable is now applying forย U.L. certificationย to qualify several new products for sale in the United States. This move aligns with its strategy to diversify exports and strengthen its global presence.
