SPS Technologies Jenkintown Plant Rebuild Strengthens U.S. Manufacturing
Precision Castparts Corp (PCC) announced plans to rebuild the SPS Technologies manufacturing plant in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania, after a fire on February 17 destroyed more than 80% of the 560,000-square-foot facility.
PCC confirmed that it will construct a new 350,000-square-foot LEED-certified building on the same site, with completion expected by early 2028. The new facility will employ around 200 workers, including some previously laid-off staff from the original plant.
Modern Design and Safety Commitments
The new SPS Technologies plant will include advanced fire protection and environmental systems designed to meet community and regulatory standards. Demolition of the damaged building concluded in September 2025, clearing the way for construction to begin soon.
Company officials said the rebuild reflects PCCโs commitment to the Jenkintown community and its long-term investments in sustainable, safe, and efficient manufacturing.
Causes and Impact of the Fire at SPS Technologies Jenkintown Plant
Authorities determined that the February 17 fire started in the compressed air system area and was ruled accidental. The failure in the air system triggered multiple explosions, which quickly spread throughout the facility. Although the mechanical source could not be isolated, investigators confirmed there was no indication of external cause or negligence.
SPS Technologiesโ Century-Long Industrial Legacy
According to the SPS Technologies website, the company began in 1903 as the Standard Pressed Steel Company and later became part of PCC in 2003. The Jenkintown plant specialized in aerospace fasteners used in engines, wings, fuselages, and landing gear.
SPS manufactures critical components using titanium, INCONEL, WASPALOY, MP35N, MP159, and AEREX alloys. Beyond aerospace, the company also serves industries such as medical, marine, power generation, and auto racing.
The rebuilding of SPS Technologies under PCC marks a new chapter in the companyโs 120-year history, reinforcing its leadership in aerospace fastener manufacturing and commitment to innovation and safety.
