Submarine cable further connects the Republic of Palau to the world

Palau Submarine Cable Connects Island Nation to Global High-Speed Network

The Belau Submarine Cable Corporation (BSCC) and NEC Corporation have completed a new submarine cable system connecting Palau to Guam and global networks. This Palau submarine cable connection significantly improves internet speed and reliability for the island nation.

Palau Submarine Cable Connection Expands Global Access

To begin with, the new Palau Spur cable links Palau to the SEA-US submarine cable system, which connects Asia and North America via Guam and Hawaii.

NEC (https://www.nec.com) supplied approximately 200 kilometers of cable, including a 7-kilometer pre-lay shore end. As a result, Palau now benefits from direct, high-capacity connectivity.

Transition from Satellite to Fiber Connectivity

Previously, Palau relied on satellite communications, which limited speed and reliability. However, the new cable delivers fiber-optic connectivity, enabling faster data transmission.

Consequently, residents and businesses can now access high-speed internet, improving communication, education, and economic opportunities.

High-Capacity Infrastructure for Future Growth

The Palau Spur offers an initial design capacity of 500 Gbps, supporting future increases in data demand. In addition, the system connects through a branching unit located between the Philippines and Guam.

Therefore, the project ensures scalable and reliable infrastructure for long-term growth.

Enhancing Connectivity in the Pacific Region

Palau, an island nation of over 500 islands in the western Pacific, has a population of approximately 21,700 people. With this new connection, the country joins a broader global network that supports digital development and international communication.

Ultimately, the project marks a major step forward in improving connectivity across remote regions.
