Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. has established Judd Wire Mexico, S.A. de C.V. (JMEX) to manufacture tab leads for automotive lithium-ion batteries and high heat-resistant electric wires. This move strengthens Sumitomo Electric’s presence in North America’s electric vehicle (EV) and advanced mobility markets.

The Sumitomo Electric Judd Wire Mexico project was announced during an investment ceremony hosted by the Economic Development Bureau of Aguascalientes in September. The event, held at the state government headquarters, showcased the company’s expansion plans and its commitment to local manufacturing.

Governor María Teresa Jiménez Esquivel welcomed the development, saying, “We are delighted that this investment will create 300 new jobs. Aguascalientes offers a strong industrial base and public safety, and we will continue improving both for future growth.”

JMEX, scheduled to begin operations in 2025, will produce high-functionality wires and heat-resistant components essential for electric vehicles. These materials are vital to the global shift toward CASE—Connected, Autonomous, Shared, and Electric mobility.

Furthermore, the new facility positions Sumitomo Electric to meet the rising demand for advanced automotive wiring in North America. As a result, the company will play a stronger role in accelerating the region’s clean-energy and intelligent mobility transformation.

By creating Judd Wire Mexico, Sumitomo Electric expands its manufacturing footprint and deepens its ties to the North American market. The plant also strengthens regional supply chains while promoting sustainable industrial development in Aguascalientes.

Meanwhile, the company remains focused on delivering innovative, high-performance materials. Its goal is to support the evolving needs of global automakers and contribute to a more efficient, electrified transportation ecosystem.
