Sumitomo establishes Mexico subsidiary

Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd.ย has establishedย Judd Wire Mexico, S.A. de C.V. (JMEX)ย to manufactureย tab leads for automotive lithium-ion batteriesย andย high heat-resistant electric wires. This move strengthens Sumitomo Electricโ€™s presence inย North Americaโ€™s electric vehicle (EV)ย and advanced mobility markets.

Theย Sumitomo Electric Judd Wire Mexicoย project was announced during an investment ceremony hosted by theย Economic Development Bureau of Aguascalientesย in September. The event, held at the state government headquarters, showcased the companyโ€™s expansion plans and its commitment to local manufacturing.

Governor Marรญa Teresa Jimรฉnez Esquivelย welcomed the development, saying, โ€œWe are delighted that this investment will create 300 new jobs. Aguascalientes offers a strong industrial base and public safety, and we will continue improving both for future growth.โ€

JMEX, scheduled to begin operations inย 2025, will produceย high-functionality wiresย andย heat-resistant componentsย essential for electric vehicles. These materials are vital to the global shift towardย CASEโ€”Connected, Autonomous, Shared, and Electricย mobility.

Furthermore, the new facility positionsย Sumitomo Electricย to meet the rising demand for advanced automotive wiring inย North America. As a result, the company will play a stronger role in accelerating the regionโ€™s clean-energy and intelligent mobility transformation.

By creatingย Judd Wire Mexico, Sumitomo Electric expands its manufacturing footprint and deepens its ties to the North American market. The plant also strengthens regional supply chains while promotingย sustainable industrial developmentย in Aguascalientes.

Meanwhile, the company remains focused on delivering innovative, high-performance materials. Its goal is to support the evolving needs of global automakers and contribute to aย more efficient, electrified transportation ecosystem.
