Taihan announces HVDC advance

Taihan Reaches New Industry Milestone

Taihan, a leading South Korean cable manufacturer, has completed development of itsย 500kV LCC (Line Commutated Converter) XLPE HVDC land cable system. The company also receivedย KEMA international certification, marking a major step in highโ€‘voltage power transmission technology. For more details, visitย Taihan.

Highest Voltage Level Achieved

The 500kV cable represents theย highest voltage ever developedย for an LCC XLPE HVDC system. Taihan became theย first South Korean companyย and only theย second worldwideย to earn international certification at this level. The recognition highlights Taihanโ€™s strength inย engineering innovationย and its readiness to take on largeโ€‘scale global projects.

Expanding Technical Capabilities

The KEMA certification process applied tougher criteria than typical international standards, proving the cableโ€™sย stability and reliability. As a result, it can be used immediately in upcomingย HVDC projects in Korea. In addition, Taihan earned certification for itsย VSC (Voltage Source Converter) 500kV HVDC cable, broadening its capacity to supply bothย LCC and VSCย technologies. Combined with itsย MIโ€‘PPLP HVDC systemย developed in 2017, the company now covers the full range of highโ€‘voltage transmission solutions.

Powering Global Energy Growth

Taihan Presidentย Na Hyeongโ€‘gyunย noted that this certification comes as international demand forย longโ€‘distance transmissionย andย renewable energyย rises rapidly. He emphasized that Taihan plans to pursue new HVDC opportunities inย Europe, theย United States, andย Korea, supporting the expansion of clean energy infrastructure worldwide.
