Taihan Cable to build an HVDC test facility, reports EHV power project in Egypt

Taihan Cable & Solution Expands HVDC Testing Capabilities in South Korea

Taihan Cable & Solutionย announced a plan to build a new test facility for HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) cables at its main production site in Dangjin, South Korea. The project highlights Taihanโ€™s continued effort to lead innovation in high-performance cable technology.

New HVDC Cable Test Facility in Dangjin

The upcoming facility will occupy about 7,000 square meters of unused land at the Dangjin plant. Construction will finish in the first quarter of next year. Once complete, the site will allow Taihan to test two HVDC cable lines at once, including both land and submarine cables.

Importantly, the new lab will run advanced evaluations such as long-term reliability (PQ) tests and Temporary Over Voltage (TOV) tests. These trials are now required for international HVDC certification. With this addition, Taihan will complete the infrastructure needed to perform globally recognized HVDC tests.

Driving Growth Through the Taihan HVDC Cable Test Facility

The Taihan HVDC cable test facility strengthens the companyโ€™s position in the global cable market. It also helps Taihan maintain strict standards for quality and reliability. As a result, customers worldwide can expect faster certification, improved testing accuracy, and stronger long-term cable performance.

Expanding Taihanโ€™s Global Reach with New Egyptian Project

Meanwhile, Taihan continues to grow its international presence. On Feb. 22, the company announced a new 500 kV extra-high voltage (EHV) power project in Egypt. The contract came from the Electric Power Systems Engineering Company, a joint venture of the Egyptian government.

The project will link an existing substation with a new HVDC converter station in the Badr region of northeastern Egypt. Taihan will supply 500 kV HVAC cables and manage the entire process, from delivery to project oversight. This partnership gives Taihan its first major entry into Egyptโ€™s EHV market.

According to Taihan, 500 kV is the highest voltage currently used in the country. By securing this order, Taihan beat out top local and global competitors and strengthened its presence in the international energy sector.
