TE SubCom and SSCC to Build Submarine Cable Depot in Samoa
TE SubCom and the Samoa Submarine Cable Company (SSCC) will build a new submarine cable depot at the Port of Apia, Samoa, to support growing demand for cable maintenance and repair services across the South Pacific.
Strategic Investment in Regional Cable Infrastructure
TE SubCom (https://www.subcom.com) secured the South Pacific Marine Maintenance Agreement (SPMMA) in 2017. This five-year agreement connects the company with 15 regional cable operators to maintain critical infrastructure.
The new depot will strengthen TE SubCom’s ability to manage and service submarine cable systems throughout the region.
Supporting Over 51,000 km of Cable Systems
The Apia-based facility will support more than 51,000 kilometers of telecom and power cables. It will also assist with regional cable installation projects, improving response times and operational efficiency.
The SPMMA service area spans a vast region, extending from Singapore to Tahiti and from New Zealand to Hawaii, making it one of the largest maintenance zones globally.
Enhancing South Pacific Connectivity
The Samoa Submarine Cable Company (https://www.sscc.ws) plays a key role in strengthening regional connectivity and digital infrastructure. The new depot will help ensure reliable service for existing networks while supporting future expansion.
This investment reinforces the importance of submarine cable infrastructure in enabling communication and energy transmission across the South Pacific.
