TE SubCom to build cable depot in Samoa

TE SubCom and SSCC to Build Samoa Submarine Cable Depot for South Pacific Network

TE SubCom and the Samoa Submarine Cable Company (SSCC) will develop a new submarine cable depot in Samoa at the Port of Apia. This project will strengthen maintenance capabilities for more than 20 cable systems across the South Pacific.

TE SubCom Samoa Cable Depot Supports Regional Infrastructure

To begin with, TE SubCom (https://www.subcom.com) secured the South Pacific Marine Maintenance Agreement (SPMMA) in 2017. This five-year agreement connects the company with 15 regional cable operators, enabling coordinated support for critical infrastructure.

As a result, the new depot will serve as a central hub for maintaining and managing submarine cable systems throughout the region.

Maintaining Over 51,000 km of Cable Systems

In addition, the facility will support more than 51,000 kilometers of telecom and power cables. It will also assist with regional installation projects, improving response times and operational efficiency.

The SPMMA coverage area spans a vast region. Specifically, it extends from Singapore to Tahiti and from New Zealand to Hawaii, making it one of the most extensive maintenance zones globally.

Strengthening South Pacific Connectivity

At the same time, the Samoa Submarine Cable Company (https://www.sscc.ws) plays a key role in enhancing regional connectivity. The new depot will ensure reliable maintenance services while also supporting future network expansion.

Ultimately, this investment will improve network resilience, reduce downtime, and support the continued growth of digital infrastructure across the South Pacific.
