WAI to host 2-part wire die webinars

WAI News
The WAI, in partnership with Hyperion Materials & Technologies, will host a two-part September webinar series on wire die quality. Aimed at tool makers and producers, the sessions will explore PCD and carbide die performance, defect indicators, TCO impacts, and testing innovations. Free for WAI members; registration required.

The Wire Association International (WAI) has partnered with Hyperion Materials & Technologies to deliver a two-part technical webinar series focused on wire die quality. These sessions, hosted via Zoom, target wire die tool makers and wire producers. Learn more at https://www.wirenet.org/ and https://www.hyperionmt.com/.

Part 1: Differentiating High-Quality PCD Wire Dies

The first session, “Differentiating High-Quality PCD Wire Dies,” will take place on September 17 at 11 a.m. EST. Industry experts Hector Ferrer Ribas and Andrew Gledhill will lead the session.

They will explain the fundamentals of carbide and PCD (polycrystalline diamond) materials. In addition, they will highlight key red flags, including EDM cutting issues and cracks.

Participants will also learn how material defects impact total cost of ownership (TCO). The session includes a practical checklist to evaluate die quality based on manufacturing processes, material consistency, traceability, and supplier expertise. Finally, presenters will review PCD innovations, testing methods, certifications, and quality assurance practices.

Part 2: Key Differentiators in Carbide Wire Dies

The second session, “Key Differentiators in Carbide Wire Dies,” will take place on September 24 at 11 a.m. EST.

This session will focus on identifying quality indicators in carbide wire dies. Presenters will examine common defects such as casing issues, breakage, cavities, pores, and surface scratches.

Attendees will also explore the root causes of these defects and their effect on TCO. A second evaluation checklist will help participants assess dies based on process control, consistency, and supplier standards. In addition, the session will cover testing methods, material traceability, and recent carbide innovations.

Registration and Member Benefits

Each webinar requires separate registration. WAI offers free access for members, while non-members pay $75 per session.

For frequent participants, WAI membership (priced at $150 annually) provides added value. Members receive free webinar access along with discounts on training programs and industry events.
