Expanding Connectivity Across Southern Chile
The project, known as Fiber Óptica Austral (FOA), will span 2,800 km. It will connect Puerto Montt to key southern locations, including Caleta Tortel, Punta Arenas, and Puerto Williams.
This network will improve connectivity in remote regions and support economic and social development across southern Chile.
Government Investment and Project Scope
Chile’s telecommunications authority, Subtel, will fund the project to improve access in the Los Lagos, Aysén, and Magallanes regions. CTR will deploy and operate the network, while Huawei Marine will deliver the full submarine cable solution.
The system will offer a design capacity of 16 terabits per second (Tbps), ensuring high-speed and reliable communication.
Strengthening Digital Infrastructure
The Huawei Marine Chile subsea cable will reduce connectivity gaps and improve network resilience in underserved areas. In addition, it will support regional growth by enabling faster data transmission and better access to digital services.
The project is scheduled for completion by the end of 2019, marking a significant milestone in Chile’s digital expansion strategy.
