JDR gets order for 125 km of cable, sees construction begin for new cable plant

JDR Expands Production to Power U.K. Offshore Wind

JDR Cable Systemsย has launched a major expansion with theย JDR Moray West Offshore Wind Contractย and the start of construction for its new cable manufacturing plant inย Cambois, nearย Blyth, Northumberland. This milestone boosts JDRโ€™s U.K. production capacity and supports the nationโ€™s growing offshore wind energy industry.

Supporting the Moray West Offshore Wind Farm

The signed contract coversย inter-array cables (IACs)ย for theย Moray West Offshore Wind Farm, a key project in theย Ocean Windsย portfolio. JDR will manufacture the cables at itsย Hartlepool facility, ensuring local production and faster delivery.

The IACs will connect each wind turbine to the offshore substation platforms (OSPs). From there, electricity will flow to the onshore connection point atย Blackhillock, near Keith. The deal also includes an interconnector cable that links the two OSPs beneath the seabed.

In total, JDR will deliver aboutย 125 km of 66 kV subsea cables.ย Seaway 7 ASAย will handle the installation, ensuring efficient deployment across the offshore site.

Driving the U.K.โ€™s Clean Energy Transition

โ€œMoray West plays a vital role in the U.K.โ€™s energy transition,โ€ saidย John Price, Sales Director at JDR. โ€œAs a U.K. manufacturer, weโ€™re proud to support local renewable energy goals. Producing cables domestically avoids the extra emissions and costs tied to overseas shipping.โ€

This achievement builds on JDRโ€™s ongoing commitment to clean energy and sustainable infrastructure. Furthermore, it reinforces the growing importance of local supply chains in meeting expanding offshore demand.

JDRโ€™s New Advanced Facility in Cambois

The newย ยฃ130 millionย subsea cable plant in Cambois will expand JDRโ€™s capacity to supply global offshore projects. Coveringย 69,000 square meters, the facility will include cutting-edge cable production technology, such as aย Continuous Catenary Vulcanization (CCV)ย line.

When complete in 2024, the site will become theย only U.K. facilityย capable of full end-to-end manufacturing ofย high-voltage subsea cables. This investment will enable JDR to produce high-voltage export cables and longer-length array cables, helping the renewable market scale efficiently.

JDR CEOย Tomasz Nowakย added, โ€œLaunching construction took teamwork and dedication. The east coast of the U.K. continues to grow as an energy hub, and weโ€™re proud to be part of that momentum.โ€

Strengthening the Offshore Energy Market

By expanding production and supporting local manufacturing, JDR helps accelerate the U.K.โ€™s renewable ambitions. With each new project, the company pushes the offshore wind industry toward a cleaner, stronger, and more sustainable future.
