LS Cable completes 1st plant in Africa

LS Cable Egypt Cable Plant Marks First African Facility

LS Cable & System (LSC&S)ย has completed its firstย LS Cable Egypt cable plantย in an industrial city near Cairo. This new facility gives the company a strategic base in Africa and strengthens its ability to serve fastโ€‘growing regional power cable markets.

In January 2020, LSC&S formed a joint venture with local cable installation companyย MANย inย Tenth of Ramadan City, an important industrial hub near Cairo. Through this partnership, the company aims to expand into East African and Middle Eastern countries that have aย Free Trade Agreement (FTA)ย with Egypt.

Strategic Hub for Africa and the Middle East

LSC&S views the Egyptian plant as a key response to changing global trade patterns. โ€œExport barriers are rising due to the forming of regional economic blocks around the world,โ€ saidย Myung Roeโ€‘Hyun, President & CEO of LS Cable & System. Therefore, the company plans to reinforce its competitiveness by investing directly in key hub countries.

With this Egyptian subsidiary, LS Cable & System now operatesย 11 overseas production sites, including facilities in the United States, China, Vietnam, and Poland. Together, these locations support a global strategy that combines local manufacturing with worldwide scale.

Capturing Growth in Egyptโ€™s Power Cable Market

Egyptโ€™s cable market continues to grow by more thanย 5% each year, driven by population growth and the need to upgrade aging power grids. As a result, demand for reliable power cables across Africa, including Egypt, remains very strong.

However, export barriers such as tariffs of aroundย 20%ย and high logistics costs make imports less competitive. By producing cables locally, LS Cable & System plans to improve price competitiveness, reduce shipping costs, and shorten delivery times for regional customers.

Leveraging Local Partnerships and Customer Networks

LSC&S also plans to use its partnerโ€™s established customer relationships to accelerate growth. By combining LS Cableโ€™s global technology with MANโ€™s local network, the company expects to win projects faster and ramp up operations smoothly.

This strategy should help the new LS Cable Egypt cable plant get โ€œon the right trackโ€ quickly, even in a competitive market. Over time, LS Cable & System intends to turn the Egyptian facility into a core hub for Africa and the Middle East.
