Midal Cables Supplies 1,132 km of ACCCยฎ Conductor for Major 240 kV Alberta Transmission Project

Midal Cables has delivered 1,132 km of ACCCยฎ high-temperature, low-sag conductor for a new 240 kV transmission line in Alberta. The project, led by AltaLink and ATCO, strengthens grid reliability and highlights Midalโ€™s expanding role in major North American power transmission projects.

Expanding Midalโ€™s Presence in North America

The Midal Cables Alberta transmission project highlights the companyโ€™s growing role in strengthening North Americaโ€™s electricity infrastructure. Midal Cables supplied 1,132 kilometers of AZR HAWK ACCCยฎ highโ€‘temperature, lowโ€‘sag conductors for a new 240 kV transmission line in Alberta, Canada. Strengthening Albertaโ€™s Power Network

Developed by AltaLink and ATCO, the doubleโ€‘circuit 240 kV line stretches about 350 kilometers across provincial land and farmland. It enhances grid reliability, supports Albertaโ€™s growing energy needs, and improves system flexibility across the provinceโ€™s central transmission corridor.

Once complete, the new infrastructure will integrate into Albertaโ€™s core power grid and significantly boost longโ€‘term energy resilience.

Highโ€‘Performance ACCCยฎ Conductor Technology

The project uses bundled conductor configurations to increase efficiency and capacity. Each span features CTC Globalโ€™s ACCCยฎ composite core, a nextโ€‘generation technology that reduces thermal sag while boosting currentโ€‘carrying capability compared to traditional steelโ€‘core conductors.

Hardline Engineering Ltd. oversees project design and engineering, while Victor manages construction. The project also incorporates PLP hardware to ensure mechanical reliability and seamless installation. For more on ACCCยฎ conductor technology, visit https://www.ctcglobal.com.

Supporting Major North American Grid Projects

This project builds on Midal Cablesโ€™ strong track record in the North American market. The company previously supplied conductors for the Ten West Link 500 kV transmission line between Arizona and California. It also contributed to Canadian efforts such as the Muskrat Fallsโ€“Labrador Island transmission link.

In North America, Composite Power Group represents Midalโ€™s overhead conductor line products, while Midal Cables International (Canada) Limited, based in Mississauga, Ontario, supports regional operations and distribution.

Global Manufacturing and Industry Heritage

Founded in 1977, Midal Cables is a joint venture between Intersteel of Bahrain and Olex Cables of Australia. The company manufactures aluminum rod, wire, and conductors from its base in Bahrain and various international facilities.

Midal continues to lead the global conductor market by combining advanced materials, reliable engineering, and a strong focus on grid efficiency.
