Nexansย secured a new contract from Dutch-German transmission system operatorย TenneT, worth up to โฌ1 billion under a 2023 framework agreement. Nexans will handle the engineering, procurement, construction and installation of 250 km of HVDC XLPE submarine and land cables for the LanWin 2 offshore grid connection system in the German North Sea.
The LanWin 2 system will transmit 2 GW of offshore wind energy from the German North Sea to the mainland, with commissioning targeted for 2030. This project also strengthens Nexansโs long-term collaboration with TenneT, following the BalWin3 and LanWin4 grid connection awards in March 2024, and further supports Europeโs renewable energy backbone.
Nexans also won a major contract from Swedish transmission system operatorย Svenska kraftnรคtย for the Gotland Connection project. Under this agreement, Nexans will deliver 320 km of high-voltage subsea and onshore 220 kV HVAC cables to reinforce the electricity link between GotlandโSwedenโs largest islandโand mainland Sweden.
The transition toward a carbon-neutral industry on Gotland will sharply increase electricity demand in the early 2030s, so the new link will play a crucial role. Under this contract, Nexans will manufacture, supply and install the complete cable systems from several of its plants, and the project will conclude by mid-2030, reinforcing its role as a trusted leader in energy infrastructure.
