Prysmian Group RTE Framework Agreement Supports French Grid Upgrades
Prysmian Group (visit Prysmian) has signed a new framework agreement with Réseau de Transport d’Électricité (RTE), France’s transmission system operator (about RTE). As a result, the Prysmian Group RTE framework agreement confirms Prysmian as a major partner in RTE’s plan to upgrade and expand France’s national power grids.
Moreover, this new deal strengthens Prysmian’s role in supporting France’s energy transition and long‑term network reliability.
High‑Voltage Underground Cable Systems for RTE
Under the agreement, RTE awarded Prysmian the largest share of High Voltage Alternating Current (HVAC) cable systems from 90 kV to 400 kV. Consequently, Prysmian will supply, joint, and test underground cable links that reinforce critical sections of the French grid.
The framework runs from 2021 to 2023, and it also includes options for two additional years, which gives both partners stability for future projects.
French Centers of Manufacturing Excellence
To deliver the Prysmian Group RTE framework agreement, Prysmian will rely on its French manufacturing centers in Gron and Montereau. These plants employ more than 1,400 people and specialize in high‑voltage cables and P‑Laser technology, a recyclable, high‑performance insulation platform.
In addition, by using local production, Prysmian supports French industry, shortens supply chains, and improves response times for RTE.
Strengthening a Long‑Term Strategic Partnership
This framework agreement further confirms Prysmian’s primary role as a high‑voltage cable supplier to RTE and consolidates their long‑term relationship. In turn, RTE’s choice highlights its continued trust in Prysmian’s technology, execution, and service record.
Laurent Tardif, CEO of Prysmian Group South Europe Region, noted that Prysmian feels proud to support such a strategic national infrastructure with “Made‑in‑France” cable solutions, both on land and at sea.
Proven Track Record on Major European Projects
Over the past years, Prysmian has delivered innovative, efficient, and sustainable submarine and terrestrial cable systems for RTE and other European operators. For example, its project portfolio includes:
-
The Fécamp, Courseulles‑sur‑Mer, Saint‑Nazaire, and Noirmoutier offshore wind farm connections.
-
The IFA2 HVDC submarine interconnection between the U.K. and France.
-
The Piedmont–Savoy HVDC underground link between Italy and France.
-
The INELFE 320 kV DC XLPE underground interconnection (Baixas–Santa Llogaia) between Spain and France.
Together, these projects demonstrate Prysmian’s capability to manage complex onshore and offshore links that support a more integrated European energy system.
