Prysmian France Offshore Wind Cable Projects Mark Major Milestone
The Prysmian France offshore wind cable projects represent a major step in developing the country’s first large-scale offshore wind farms. Prysmian Group has secured three turnkey contracts to supply and install submarine inter-array cable systems totaling 345 km. Learn more at https://www.prysmiangroup.com.
Project Locations and Contract Scope
Two of the contracts come from Eolien Maritime France (EMF) for the Fécamp and Courseulles-sur-Mer wind farms, located off the northern coast of France. These projects, owned by EMF and wpd offshore GmbH, are valued at more than €200 million. Learn more at https://www.eolienmaritimefrance.fr and https://www.wpd-offshore.de.
In addition, Prysmian will support the Saint Nazaire wind farm. A consortium between Prysmian and Louis Dreyfus Travocean will deliver this project, which is valued at over €20 million.
Cable Systems and Wind Farm Capacity
All three projects will use 33 kV three-core submarine cables with XLPE insulation. The systems will connect multiple wind turbines across each site:
- Fécamp: 83 wind turbine generators, total capacity of 498 MW
- Courseulles-sur-Mer: 75 turbines, total capacity of 450 MW
- Saint Nazaire: 80 turbines, total capacity of 480 MW
Prysmian will also supply cable accessories and termination services to ensure full system integration.
Manufacturing and Installation Capabilities
Prysmian will manufacture cable cores at its Montereau-Fault-Yonne facility in France. Then, it will complete assembly and finishing in Nordenham, Germany. The company will also rely on resources from General Cable’s NSW subsidiary to support production and delivery.
For the Fécamp and Courseulles-sur-Mer projects, Prysmian will act as a turnkey provider, managing both supply and installation of inter-array cables. Delivery and commissioning will take place between 2020 and 2022, depending on project timelines.
Strengthening Offshore Wind Market Leadership
The Prysmian France offshore wind cable projects reinforce the company’s position as a leading supplier in the offshore wind sector. Moreover, they highlight Prysmian’s strategy to offer end-to-end solutions across the entire supply chain.
Company executives emphasized that these awards support long-term growth. Prysmian has already secured more than €650 million in offshore wind projects between 2017 and 2018, demonstrating strong market confidence.
